  1. Plessis owl can you post bigger pictures of that bow or maybe can send them to my e-mail? This is japanes bow. One of yumi types. Yumi in japanese is same as arc in french or bow in english. It doesn't say what type of bow but means bow.
  2. I think that back cracked because belly is too big. Maybe you can remove hickory and glue other piece of wood ash for example.
  3. The other 2 lines are form of used bow. The black line is "vergin" yumi.
  4. Good shape of yumi is this black line. It is Don Symerski yumi. You can find it ad krackow.com. Main problem is dimensions of crossection.
  5. Did you recived instruction book with this kit? Can you sand me a photos of that instruction book? Please??? I am going to make Enlish LongBow for my first bow but I need dimension of real ELB. I am not going to destroy good piece of wood. I have EKOLOGIC MIND. :hypo: I saw that Pip Bickerstaffe mesured MARY ROSE bows and I think that he know dimension of real war ELB. I need few dimension and crossection :38: :pleure: I am searching internet 2 years to find that kind of information. I will quicker find MATRIX than that dimensions.
  6. What is price of that chinese bow? How strong it is?
  7. Than you for picture!!!! Merci!!!!!!!!!!!!! :07:
  8. Beautiful bow. How old it is? Can you post some more siyah details? I need picture of full siyah (like 3rd picture from top of this post but with longer limb part). I am going to make a project of this bow.
  9. I don't know what to do next. I think to go in forest and get some ash wood. My intention is to make this crossbow from two pieces of wood. In that way it is easier to carve a wood hole for mehanism. Or maybe fir/pine wood for body and oak for "table" (I think that is name of flat part where arrow is put)? It is too complicated to cut cow bone for "table". I think like Ishi. If nut will be made of plastic it will have small momentum of inertia because it will have small mass. (I hate english tensis. What is future pasive? (this is retoriq question)) I don't know what to say anymore. I will try to put it all together with dimension and hope that somebody else will try "medicine" before me :P !!!
  10. The last picture is recicled so it is not shown autoblocking nut. In this picture is front view of nut. It have this shape because it is easier to make it on lathe (machine for making round cross section and much more).
  11. When I finished previous picture I realise that maybe is good to use leaf spring to slow down nut. So you use autoblocking nut with this spring and voila you have a very silent crossbow. Maybe. :bhaoui..:
  12. I have idea. AUTOBLOCKING NUT WITHOUT BANG!!! The idea is very simple. The main problem now is mass of nut. If mass is too big it will block. If mass is small tre bien!!!
  13. Ok. The nut spring of this type is very good idea!!! Eather idea for "blue part" spring is very good. I don't think that stop pin is good idea for the same reason the previous finger nut is not good. I will make "bang" when it hit it. Nut will be made of plastic probably so the stop pin could break nut. I don't know. Is there probability that nut turn more than 90*? I don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :05: Rapsod
  14. No. That is problem. Maybe make a nut as yo-yo with spiral spring (like in clock) in center. I forgot name of site but it was like 19......./crossbows/crossbows.htm. In that site nut is fix with simple binding. Maybe that binding act as return spring for nut. I try to draw it today and post it later. I try to use Gimp for drawing (it is free) but I needed something that do vector grapfic. Than is much easier to project stuff. So I get pirat version of Corel and it is 10 times better than autocad2005. :pirate: Rapsod :demonban: Yeah baby, can I play with madness!!!
  15. Can somebody send me a picture of unstrung "virgin" yumi (yumi that has never been drawn)? I need that picture for pattern. With that pattern I will make my yumi using modern metod of recurve bow making (with form and air hose). It will be interesting experiment. Rapsod
  16. Well, Ishi78 said everything. There is mising part in this design and it is stoper (little black circle) that stops a blue part. :107: Why? Because spiral sping can turn nut in wrong direction!!! In Jihaif desing there is no need for that because nut finger do that function. How to return nut? With finger. There is enough friction between wood and nut to stop nut as it pases the flat surface of crossbow. If there is not enough friction than a piece of skin is put between wood and nut. The nut finger is not good because it can make big bang when it hit wood and lieve deep mark. What if surface of crossbow is made of cow bones? Nut finger could break it. Who say 175 libres? How about 500 libres (over 250 kg or prcisely spiking 2500 N)? Real siege crossbow for head cuting. What program do you use for drawing. I use corel draw 12.
  17. I forget to translate text near nut and nera ticler. Text near nut say that this is the most secure mehanism till now (because I draw few prototypes before this), Upper is hold by 5mm and lower 3mm (it is going to be very strong crossbow so security is very inportan). Text near tickler say that max. moviment of tickler is only 2cm what is too small. I draw this mehanism just to lower force on tickler, but moviment of it is reduced.
  18. Nobody say anything about mehanism of my future crossbow. I think that is too complex. I must make simplier form of any part. And when I misured elements I notice that handle is too narrow and it is little too small for one very powerfull crossbow. I will make bow in wood with animal tendons glued with rabit skin glue.
  19. We have tools :P but we have not materials. You see, you can not go to shop and buy piece of "dry" maple tree because nobody use maple tree for anything. So I must go in forest, cut tree, make some profiles from it, and leave them to dry next 5 years. :05: But we got fir trees. Nobody can imagine how much we have fir trees. And pine trees too. But not fine streight tree. Nooooo. That can be too easy. You can find lot of iron profiles but there is no steel. The worst thing is that I can't find tool steel. Some people here use leaf spring from cars for tool steel. It is good but not the best. Have anybody of you been in boka kotorska? There was before '90 a Club Mediteraneo on one island called st Marko. It was for franch people only. The whole island was covered with huts. There are standing all these years.
  20. I live in Serbia and Montenegro. there is a small bay in Montenegro called Boka Kotorska. I live there. We are in "transition" from comunism to capitalisam but that is too slow. For example I am craizy about hand tools: hammers, planes, saw... I don't have to buy them here. Well, I can make it but... I don't have anywhere to buy good tool steel. :05: What can you do? Nothing. I start to build chain mail. I finished 70% of it and then I run out of saw!!! I used a little saw for ring cuting but that saw was brought by my father when he was in germany. This is my life drama. :( I used 3mm iron wire for it. This 70% is about 25kg heavy. Maybe I can find rod of teflon (we call it teflon but who know whay it is exactly). It is like plastic and very strong. It will go for now. Rapsod
  21. Thanks everybody for tips. The mehanism of my future crossbow is based on one picture I found on this site: http://198.144.2.125/Crossbows/crossbows.htm It is excelent site for crossbow making. I am sure that you already know that. :29: Ishi thank for delrin tip. I will try to find it. Where I live there is poor choice of materials. :22: Rapsod
  22. This is only project. I am going to make it in next few months. What is best material for nut (I don't know how is called in franch)? I saw on one site that horn of deer is good. Is there any modern material (that is not metal) good for nut? :07: Rapsod
